Buckminster Fuller was a visionary architect who designed the geodesic dome as a solution for low-cost and sustainable housing. The Buckminster Fuller Dome on the SIUE campus is a testament to his innovative and forward-thinking approach to design and architecture.

Additionally, the dome is located on the 90th meridian, making it a special location for this event. The 90th meridian is the line of longitude located halfway between the Prime meridian & the 180th meridian, marking the center of the Western Hemisphere, and it is believed to have a strong energy field that can positively affect the body, mind and spirit.
